In order for the eye, one of our most important sensory organs, to be used efficiently throughout our lives, we should not neglect complaints about our eyes.
Eye diseases can be hereditary, as well as infectious, environmental and age-related. Eye diseases are one of the negative effects of developing technology, especially in our century.
The most common complaint of eye disorders is refractive errors. Refractive errors are myopia, hypermetropia and astigmatism.
Myopia, in the most understandable terms, is the inability to distinguish and see distant objects while being able to see nearby objects comfortably. It can be treated with glasses and contact lenses and the patient’s comfort of life can be increased.
Hyperopia, in contrast to myopia, is a complaint of nearsightedness. It is mostly seen due to genetic factors. It can be treated with glasses, contact lenses or surgical procedures.
Astigmatism is a light refraction defect. It manifests itself as blurred vision of near and far objects. Especially in night vision, the patient’s visual comfort decreases considerably as a result of the interweaving of luminous objects. With glasses and contact lenses, the person regains visual comfort.
Apart from these, cataract and glaucoma can be seen in people due to old age. Although they are completely different from each other, both cataract and glaucoma are treatable eye diseases.
